Catch Pokémon in real life

Pokémon GO is a freemium game for catching Pokémon in an augmented version of the real world. Using your smartphone’s GPS system and the game’s pre-installed map, you can walk around the streets and catch Pokémon as they spring up. There are Pokestops where you may collect free items, and you may stop at Pokémon gyms to battle with other players.

Like the mainline games, the overarching goal of Pokémon GO is to catch Pokémon. There is no time limit, and the worst thing that can happen is that the Pokémon escapes the fate of living in your Poke Ball.

Get ready to embark on a Pokémon journey

Despite the number of adults who play the game, it is still a game for kids and was created to help children notice the world around them. However, the graphics are not perfect or impressive. The creatures are still broadly drawn, and even the human characters are still bland and only marginally more detailed than the characters in the animated series. At first glance, you will be unimpressed with the graphics, especially if you have a modern PC or game console

While it has a dedicated setting for unlocking your device’s native refresh rate, the app doesn’t feature options for improving or reducing the graphics quality. However, once you start playing the game, the less-than-impressive graphics will not bother you. Seeing the Pokémon in the real world is rather exciting, and is unlike anything that has come before it. When playing the game, it uses a significant amount of data and battery power, so make sure you have a suitable data plan before you move outside of your home Wi-Fi range. Not to mention, the app collects a lot of your data.

As a heads up, some adults are using the app to prey on young children because it has them congregate in certain areas to collect Pokémon GO creatures. Hence, it’s best to supervise your kids while they’re playing the game. Also, players should exercise vigilance at all times to prevent any untoward accidents. Moreover, do not venture into dangerous neighborhoods in search of creatures, and most importantly, do not play it while driving

Immersive and interactive game

The unique aspect of Pokémon GO that provides immense gratification for players is the fact that it gives them first-hand experience of becoming a Pokémon master. The excitement does not conclude with the catching of Pokémon from various locations. It also includes the satisfaction of training and nurturing them to ensure their optimal growth, soon leading to their eventual evolution. The game carries on to its climax as players interact with other Pokémon trainers for thrilling gym battles and raids.

In gym battles, you must defeat the Pokémon at the gym to gain control of the area and replace it with one of your own Pokémon. On the other hand, raids are collaborative activities where a team of 20 players can challenge a formidable Pokémon. After vanquishing the raid boss, all team members will have the chance to capture and add it to their arsenals. Raids are a great way to catch rare and powerful Pokémon that are often unavailable through other means.

New season, new encounters

From December 1, 2023 to March 1, 2024, Pokémon GO’s Season 13: Timeless Travels will include Pokémon from Hisui—a region in the Nintendo Switch game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. According to the game’s trailer, the new season will feature Wyrdeer, Hisuian counterparts of Decidueye, Samuroot, Typhlosion, and many more. Moreover, cities, mountains, and other real-life locations will be teeming with new Pokémon—all waiting to be caught. There are hemisphere-exclusive Pokémon, as well.

In the northern hemisphere, players can catch Beldum, Froakie, Pidove, and Deerling’s winter form. In contrast, those from the southern hemisphere can catch Treecko, Gible, Shroomish, and Deerling’s summer form. There are going to be season-long rewards, of course. These include:

  • One free candy during trades.
  • Increased XP when the week-long PokéStop spin streak has been achieved.
  • Increased XP and Stardust when a player completes a seven-day catching streak.
  • Increased chances of obtaining a Rare Candy XL during five-star in-person raids for players at level 31 and up.
  • One free Candy XL during trades for players at level 31 and up.

Shadow Raids will make a comeback in the new season, enabling trainers to participate in daily one-star and three-star raids and weekends-exclusive five-star raids. If you love hunting for legendaries, you can catch a regular or shiny Shadow Zapdos in a five-star raid. Moreover, trainers can take part in GO Battle League’s Fantasy Cup, Great League Remix, Hisui Cup, and Holiday Cup, to name a few. Players are also encouraged to check the in-game shop for some goodies for the whole duration of Season 13.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series festivities

Exciting times are ahead for Pokémon GO enthusiasts with the Pokémon Horizons: The Series launch. Gear up to snag a dapper Pikachu, sporting a signature Cap's hat — you might even catch a shiny one — as you dive into this immersive event. It's also complete with its Volt Tackle move. The game also adds Paldea's Charcadet, which offers an engaging evolution system involving battles to become either Armarouge or Ceruledge.

This event is not just a celebration for die-hard fans but also a bounty for those chasing extra experience points, offering double XP rewards for egg-hatching endeavors. The surge in Team GO Rocket balloon assaults will surely test your mettle. Keep an eye out for Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly playfully hiding in the wild, and don't miss the chance to encounter the rare Alolan Grimer and Beldum.

Raids are ramping up too, with the special Pikachu and a variety of adversaries ready for battle, providing opportunities for both exciting gameplay and enhancing your collection. Whether you're keen on witnessing new evolutions or beefing up your Pokémon lineup, this event is a homage to the sprawling Pokémon universe, inviting enthusiasts and gamers alike to share in the new animation series' fervor.

Grow your Pokémon collection

One could complain about the app’s safety hazards, or how the Niantic company is able to gain access to a great deal of your personal information, but one has to admit that collecting the Pokémon GO characters is satisfying. It is like collecting bottle tops in the 70s, stamps in the 80s, Pogs in the 90s, and Pokémon cards in the 00s. With this game, you have all the reasons to venture outdoors.
